RICHARD E. BOGGIO (1932 - 2014)


Richard "Dick" Boggio, 81, passed away at Home Place Special Care Center in Burlington, WA on Friday, March 7, 2014. He was born to Richard and Retha (Metcalf) Boggio on December 23, 1932 in Red Lodge, Montana, the first of six children and grew up on his family's ranch near Red Lodge.

Dick graduated from Carbon Country High School in Red Lodge in 1950 and continued his education at Montana State College to become a high school music and math teacher. He married Elva Johnston in 1953 and they raised four children. In 1961 the family moved to Pullman, WA for year while Dick completed a Masters Degree in education counseling. They moved to Snohomish County in 1962 where he was a counselor at Edmonds and Meadowdale High Schools, and then at Shoreline Community College for the last twenty years of his career, retiring in 1987.

Dick always had a boat and enjoyed fishing with family and friends, was an avid sports fan, and loved to tell jokes and stories.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sisters, Karen Hotchkiss and Kaye Lyytinen.

Surviving Dick are his daughter, Theresa (John) Slater; sons, Steve (Debra) Boggio, John (Diane) Boggio, Anton (Cindi) Boggio, and their mother, Elva Johnston; brothers, David (Marlene) Boggio, Dan (Charlene) Boggio, and sister Kristin (Scott) Marshall; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving him is his wife of 30 year Grace Boggio of Anacortes, WA.

A memorial service will be held at Anacortes Lutheran church, 2100 "O" Ave. on Saturday, March 22nd at 11am.
