Flood Relief for Diane
Hurricane Relief
for Diane
Update: January 6, 2025
Hello and Happy New Year to my MHS ‘67 Classmates!
First of all, I once again, want to thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers, cards, words of encouragement, and money gifts given to me to help me through this process of the restoration of my home after the Hurricane Helene flood in September! Words cannot adequately express my gratitude, and how much it means to me that so many of you have stepped up to help me in so many ways!
I would like to say that my home is all fixed and ready to move in, but unfortunately, that is not the case at this time. It has been a long process of dealing with the county and all the rules and regulations imposed to even get permits to do the work needed. There is a lot of paperwork and submission of very detailed plans as to what we need to do to restore my house, and the cost needs to stay under 50% of the value of my home. Thankfully, my two daughters and sons-in-law have stepped up to help me in this long process to put together all that we need to submit to the county, which we did on December 18. We are now waiting for the county to review all of our documents and hopefully issue permits to us this month so that we can get started on the work. There may be some issues they want to address and we may have to change some things, but hopefully not too much. Some others have received their permits, but it has taken at least a month or more for them to get them. I will definitely let you all know when that happens for me and when we begin the work on my house. God has provided most of the money that we need, thanks to generous donors like many of you!
In the meantime, I have been blessed with places to stay due to the hospitality of people from my church. I have also had the privilege of spending the holidays up here in Washington with my family for the last three weeks. In fact, I am still here but will be going back to Florida on Saturday, January 11.
I will continue to keep you all posted on the progress being made. THANK YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN! May God bless you all for your kindness!
With sincere love and gratitude,
Diane (Riffle) Anderson

Update on Diane Riffle
I spoke with Diane this morning for about 45 minutes. She is so thankful for your cards and donations, overwhelmed actually. We have raised over $5,000 for Diane.
I asked her how she was doing. She was in really good spirits, and is preparing for the next steps. She said I could post her response to my questions about how the meetings on her property have gone.
"We are hopeful! I had an independent appraisal done yesterday, which I am hoping will raise the value of my house. The county has been accepting appraisal values to determine the values of our houses, which gives us more money to work with under the “50/50” rule to be able to restore our homes. Some people have already been approved and got permits to fix their homes.
I won’t know the results of my appraisal for a few more days, and then there is a bunch of forms I have to fill out on how I intend to fix my house along with quotes on projected costs, etc. It is a very complicated process!🥴 The county has to accept my appraisal before I can apply for permits. Praying for the best outcome!🙏
Thank you and all of my MHS classmates that have helped me financially and prayed for me! The money is safe in a special account just waiting to be used! If everything goes through I am not sure when we will start the restoration with the holidays coming up."😊🧑🦰

I know you're all aware of the recent catastrophic effects of Hurricane Helene. We've never really done this before, but this is an urgent situation. Diane ( Riffle ) Anderson has been devastated by this disaster. She lived in Hudson, Florida in a senior mobile home park. She was able to evacuate to a safe place the day before the storm surge. She's safe, and staying with an older couple from her church, but, her mobile home and the whole park is a mess. She's basically lost almost all her possessions. She has no insurance. The mobile home may be salvageable, but she's not sure, ... the walls are wet, and now there is the possibility the park may be sold. Her future is unclear right now. All her furniture and contents is stacked outside for the county to come and pick up. For those who know Diane, you know she is a very strong Christian, so her faith is carrying her through all this. Many of you had a chance to visit with Diane at our 2023 picnic, so you know she is the same sweet person she was in high school.
Here are some ways we can tangibly help Diane.
First, we can pray for her and her circumstances. There are decisions to be made, and not easy ones, regarding her home, and other items. Please be praying for Diane's spiritual, physical, and emotional needs.
Second, ... Diane is going to need some money. My understanding is that you can send her money through Zelle. I think Zelle is available through most banking institutions, so you can check that out. You need her phone for Zelle. It's (727) 495-9166. I know she has received money via Zelle, through BECU, with just her name and phone #. Let's see if we can help her out. If you are unable to use either of these methods, contact me, and we'll figure out a way, ... David Johnson dlexj@comcast.net
