Shirley Canfield

January 10, 1949 - October 28, 2025

I have some very sad news to share. Shirley Canfield has passed away. Her daugher, Kerry said she passed away in her sleep on October 28th. I didn’t know she was sick. I was emailing with her early in October. She was such a sweet spirit. Her family is planning a memorial party Saturday, November 22nd, 3-7pm, at Legion Hall at Legion Park in North Everett. 145 Alverson Blvd. Here’s a picture of Shirley, with Janet Westerlund at one of our Elvis events.

I will be there in spirit, to celebrate our dear friend Shirley.  Kerry and Erin will need that support.

Shirley and I met as high school seniors taking lots of business classes together, and we clicked right away. She even won a business class award at the end of the year! Right out of high school, we got an apartment on Capitol Hill and shared many good memories, and a cat named Chuck! It was her idea that we move to Kentucky because she said I was always talking about it! We both had office jobs at Boeing, but in different areas, so after we agreed not to back out, we gave notice at Boeing, and caught a train to Kentucky! It was March 1968, and we almost decided to stay in LA because it was so warm and beautiful! We got off the train for a day, and toured around the area, especially loving Oliveira Street. After spending the night at the YWCA, we resumed our journey. Well...Shirley only lasted two weeks! I'm still here! Truth be told--She thought she was in love! Right before we left for Kentucky, she had met my brother who had just returned from Vietnam. They only dated a short time, but she was smitten! Alas, it did not work out, although I was rooting for her. She would've made a great sister-in-law!
I'm just so shocked and saddened at her sudden death, and I will miss her, but will always treasure our 18 - 19 year-old memories. My thoughts and prayers go to all of her loved ones.
